Immigration is a big controversial topic here in the United States, I am 16 years old and i was born in Mexico and I immigrated to the United States. At the age of 10, my family and I came to the United States to have a better life. When i got to the United States, i did not know how to speak English. Learning English was my hardest obstacle.
Two weeks later I started going to school. The first day of school was hard for me because I didn't know English. I was not able to communicate with the teachers or with the other students. That same day, after school I went to my house and I created a goal for myself. That goal that I created for myself was to learn English by the end of the year.
Two months later, after being here in Lindsay, I learned some English by asking my friends who knew English and Spanish to tell me what was the definition in Spanish of some words that I didn't know the meaning of and also by searching the definition in the internet. Thanks to my friends that helped me pronounce some words that were difficult for me to pronounce and what the meaning of them was, now I can actually have a conversation with a teacher or with a student. The internet helped me a lot because i could translate some words that were difficult for me to pronounce, a website would say the word and I would try to pronounce correctly.
My mom and dad are still working in the fields everyday just to feed us and to give us a good education. On saturdays and sometimes sundays, my sisters and I would go help them work so we could pay the rent and bills and we would get some money too so we could go buy what we wanted. My parents would always tell us to try our best in school so we could get a better job than working in the fields.
My life totally changed after I got to the United States. My life changed because now I learned another language and I have more opportunities of getting a decent job so I can help my parents. I will try my best in school so after graduating from High School I would try to go to a college so I can study a carrier so I can work and help my parents so they won't have to work in the fields.
